News & notes

The Tri-City Valleycats, if they want to make the post-season for the first time in the Frontier League, will need to snap out of a late season funk that has seen them drop five in a row after getting swept by Sussex County, 5-4, on Thursday in the home finale at Bruno Stadium. The 'Cats head back to Canada to night to play the Trois Rivieres Aigles (Three Rivers Eagles, not Angels as WROW morning host Ben Patten mistakenly said this morning) in the final series of the regular season.

In other Valleycats news, the NY Boulders have been cleared of all accusations of cheating made last weekend by 'Cats manager Pete Incaviglia. Prior to last night's game, it was reported that Tri-City GM Matt Callahan stood by his manager. Not quite a vote of confidence, but if the 'Cats can't beat Trois Rivieres, I'd hate to think that might be the end of Incaviglia in Troy, but we'll see.

As discussed over at The Land of Whatever, local football fans are now without ESPN if they have Spectrum Cable.

Disney pulled the ESPN family of networks, and other Disney channels, at 8 pm last night after negotiations with Spectrum's parent, Charter Communications, stalled. The issue? Money, of course.

The local angle? Hudson Valley Community College is set to make their TV debut on September 16, as reported earlier this week, and the game is ticketed for ESPN+, though an HVCC source I talked to was under the impression the game would be on ESPN2. If you've never been to HVCC's football field, it's situated behind Bruno Stadium on the HVCC campus.

Personally, I think a settlement will be reached before the 16th. Like, in time for the season opener of Monday Night Football five days prior, on the 11th.
