News & notes

There's a reason James Allen (Spectrum News 1/Albany Times-Union) picked Troy High to finish last in the Class A Capital Division this year, having seen Jordan Canzeri's Flying Horses in training camp. I've a bad feeling about this.

In the space of a little more than 24 hours, due to Friday's game being suspended with under two minutes left in the 1st quarter, it felt like the bad old days again in the opener at Queensbury. Down 21-0 in the 1st when play was stopped Friday, it got worse instead of better for Troy. By the 3rd quarter, the Spartans led, 48-6, and won, 55-6. Ugh. Troy opens the home portion of their schedule Friday against another perceived league doormat in South Glens Falls, whom Troy beat last year.

Meanwhile, Troy's soccer teams finally scored. They just haven't figured the final key to winning yet.

The men (0-2-1) forged a 2-2 draw with Tamarac, while the women were blown out by Mechanicville for the 2nd straight week, 9-1. The soon-to-be-former Red Raiders outscored the Lady Horses (0-3), 16-1, in the 2 games.
