News & notes

One would think that with Green Tech hosting a fundraising bowling event for their basketball program at Uncle Sam Lanes on Sunday, the media would've taken notice.

Nope.

Two days later, not a peep in the newspapers. Didn't watch the news on Sunday, so I don't know if cameras were there.

518 Alumni Watch:

With the NBA season nearly a week old, it's time to check on a pair of prominent stars from the 518.

Kevin Huerter (Shenendehowa/Maryland) logged in 36 minutes, and scored 12 points Sunday in a win for Sacramento over the LA Lakers. The Kings are 2-1 on the young season, but, unfortunately, have gotten the kiss of death, that being, an endorsement from ESPN bloviator Stephen A. Smith, who has declared the Kings the best of the four California teams in the league. Way too early for such pronouncements, but, then again, Smith doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Andre Jackson, Jr. (Albany Academy/Connecticut) has only appeared in one game so far for Milwaukee, a loss to Atlanta. Jackson only played 7 minutes off the bench and didn't score. It's early.

In what has to be considered an upset, Guilderland captured the Class AA men's soccer title Monday, shutting out Niskayuna, 5-0, at Queensbury.

In the nightcap, Shaker won the initial Class AAA title, beating Saratoga, 2-1.

On the women's side, Columbia won the Class AA title, shutting out Niskayuna, 1-0.

We can clarify the state regional schedule for men's soccer, at least through tomorrow:

Class C:

Shaker & Guilderland's opponents will be revealed, probably as early as today.
