News & notes

The last two years, Troy High has opened its women's basketball season at Averill Park in the tip-off tournament. The results were not good. The Lady Horses finished 3rd in 2021, beating South Glens Falls in the consolation game, but were dead last in last year's tournament.

This year's Averill Park Tip-Off tournament, coming in 2 weeks, is an all-Suburban Council affair, as Guilderland & Bethlehem replace Troy & South Glens Falls in the field. The lineup:

December 1:

Averill Park vs. Columbia.

Bethlehem vs. Guilderland.

December 2:

Consolation & championship games.

All four games will be streamed on Averill Park's YouTube channel, as was the case the last two years.

Meanwhile, Troy will bring back the Holiday Classic for both the men & women December 28-30.

The only other teams announced so far are Ballston Spa, who will play the Troy women in a 12:45 matinee on December 29, and Shenendehowa, whose boys will make two trips to Zotto Gym, the first being on December 30. The rest of the fields have not been confirmed as of press time.

New Troy men's coach Josh Pelletier will have his first informal test Wednesday with a scrimmage vs. Albany Academy, with the regular season debut in a non-league game against Columbia December 1.
