News & notes

Two months ago, Union reclaimed the Dutchmen's Shoes. On Saturday, they held on to the Mayor's Cup, and clinched the season series vs. RPI.

The Garnet Chargers won their 8th game in 11 Mayor's Cup contests, downing the Engineers, 5-3, in front of nearly 5700 fans at MVP Arena. RPI & Union split two games in November, setting this up as the rubber game of the series.

On the up side for RPI, the women defeated Union, 1-0. In contrast to the men, RPI has won 5 of the 6 Women's Mayor's Cup games. Amanda Rampado had 14 saves to lead RPI, including stoning Union's Emma Fulawaka with 4 1/2 seconds left in regulation to clinch it.

UAlbany's women's basketball team continues to roll, hiking their record overall to 18-2 with a 54-48 win over New Hampshire at Broadview Center Saturday afternoon. However, the win came with a price in the form of ankle injuries to Meghan Huerter & Lilly Phillips. The two Section II alumni (Shenendehowa & Cambridge, respectively) finished with a collective 17 points (9 & 8, respectively). Coach Colleen Mullen is hoping to get one or both of them back for Thursday's home game vs. Vermont. Kayla Cooper led Albany with 13 points, and Helene Haegerstrand added 12.
