News & notes

We closed yesterday's report by saying there'd be a pool on when Jonathan Beagle (Hudson Falls) would re-enter the transfer portal and leave UAlbany, this time for good.

It didn't take that long at all. Michael Kelly, in today's Albany Times-Union, reports that Beagle, who left the Great Danes after their February 1 loss to Vermont, for personal reasons, has gone into the portal, and it's believed he won't be back at UAlbany this time.

But, that isn't all.

Over at Siena, six women, led by sophomore Elisa Mevius, have entered the portal as well. The others are London Gamble, Hannah Finnerty, Constance Ogbeide, Esther Rodellar, & Nikola Zdenkova. Aside from Mevius & Gamble, the others are seldom-used bench players who will be looking to find a school that will give them greater playing time. In fact, Finnerty left the program back at the start of the season.

We've been touting the efforts of Albany Academy graduate Brett Young at George Washington for a while now. The Times-Union's Bill Arsenault finally took notice, and included Brett in today's Campus Watch column. For the season, Young is hitting .365 with 5 stolen bases, 4 doubles, a triple, and 14 RBI.

And there's a couple more familiar names on today's list.

Jenalyse Alarcon (Troy High) was named to the East Coast Conference 2nd team for the 2nd straight year. Jenalyse led the College of Staten Island in scoring at 12.3 points per game, assists (61), and rebounding. Jenalyse's sisters were on Troy's varsity & JV rosters this season.

Staying in the East Coast Conference, Anna Jankovic (Averill Park) joins Alarcon on the ECC 2nd team, and Jackie Stanovich (Amsterdam) was named to the first team. The two attend D'Youville & Mercy, respectively.

As much as we've reported on Siena this season we were lax in noting Grace Heeps (Columbia), who played for Canisius this season. Heeps graduated from Northfield Mt. Hermon, a prep school in Massachusetts, after leaving Columbia. She averaged 6.8 points per game.

Tuesday's college scoreboard:

Brockport swept Cobleskill, 12-0 & 4-0.
