The other shoe drops: Carmen Maciariello out at Siena

Last month, Siena administration gave men's basketball coach Carmen Maciariello the dreaded vote of confidence. The Saints finished 4-28, eliminated in the 1st round of the MAAC tournament last week in Atlantic City.

This morning, the other shoe dropped, as Siena decided to cut Maciariello with 2 years left on his contract.

Injuries to key players, including Sean Durugordon and Michael Eley, coupled with the worst single season record in school history, ultimately did in "Coach Carm". You can't really say you didn't see this coming.

On the heels of Maciariello's firing, Mason Courtney, a walk-on from Shenendehowa, has entered the transfer portal, following Eley and Zek Tekin, who entered the portal on Monday.

There were rumors as early as last month that Siena was interested in talking to Will Brown, who just finished his lone season at the College of St. Rose. While Siena administration announced a nationwide search would begin for the next coach, I'm also hearing that Syracuse assistant and former player Gerry McNamara is also being rumored as a possibility.

All we can say now is, stay tuned.
