News & notes

Meghan Huerter will have some company at UAlbany next season.

A fellow Shenendehowa alumnus, Bella Stuart, is transferring from New Hampshire to Albany as a graduate student after playing for the Lady Wildcats the last 4 seasons. Proof positive that the transfer portal does work both ways.

Meanwhile, Shaker grad Maddisyn Mahoney has chosen her next destination for her senior season.

Mahoney will transfer from the College of St. Rose to Le Moyne, where she'll play for Siena alumnus Mary Grimes. Best of luck to Maddisyn.

Siena men's basketball announcer Emmanuel Berbari has been moonlighting the last couple of years, and it could pay off in the long term.

Berbari has been one of a number of fill-in play-by-play announcers for Yankees radio broadcasts, and, with the news of senior announcer John Sterling's retirement on Monday, Berbari may get his chance to take the gig full time, as he's on a short list of candidates, a list that also includes Ryan Ruocco, who has spelled Sterling and TV play-by-play voice Michael Kay in recent years when not calling games for ESPN.

The only hitch is if Berbari has to give up his winter gig for Yankee pre-season games. Stay tuned.

If you can't get to MVP Arena for the Albany Firebirds' home opener vs. Orlando next Saturday night, take heart.

The game will air on NFL Network (Spectrum channel 310) after the conclusion of the NFL Draft. Kick time is 8 pm as a result.

In unrelated news, former Albany Empire owner and general nuisance Antonio Brown is in trouble again, this time leading with his mouth on social media.

His target? Caitlin Clark.

After Clark was drafted by the WNBA's Indiana Fever Monday, Brown made some disparaging remarks about the young phenom, which he has not walked back or apologized for. Anything to continue his 15 minutes of post-career infamy. Here's to hoping his cousin, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, now with the Kansas City Chiefs, doesn't make the mistake of following his brain dead relative off the field......
