News & notes

 Albany Academy won the Colonial Council men's golf title Friday, holding off Ichabod Crane by 7 shots. LaSalle & Troy finished 3rd & 4th, respectively. The Riders' Tanner La Torre won the individual competition, with Troy's Joey Degnan finishing 2nd.

For Troy, it was a stronger showing than they have had in their 8 seasons of competition in the Suburban Council, and, hopefully, a sign of things to come.

Former Siena basketball star Kyle Downey has reinvented himself as a golfer, and leads the NY Mid-Amateur tournament by 7 shots through one round of play on Friday. Round 2 is underway as of press time.
=====================================
College hockey season has started at RPI, but the women's team fell in their opener at Houston Field House to Holy Cross, 3-2, on Friday. The two teams will meet again today at 3 pm. However, because women's hockey doesn't get the same kind of promotion as the men's teams, resulting in a ton of empty seats at the field house.

Next Friday's Collar City Cup game between Troy & LaSalle just got a whole lot more interesting, as both teams are trending downward after 4 weeks.

As reported last night, LaSalle fell to Amsterdam, joining the Rams at 1-3. Troy is 2-2 after dropping a 33-12 decision to Columbia (4-0). Both city squads needed momentum going into the big game at Sutton Field, but both were found wanting.

I believe the game will be streaming on Hudl, in case anyone's interested.
