High School Fridays: CBA @ Shenendehowa, 9/27/24

Since taking over as varsity football coach at CBA, Bob "The Builder" Burns has gone 5-1 vs. Shenendehowa. If you extend that to his time at Troy High, when Troy was in Class AA, Burns is 7-1 head-to-head vs. Shen coach Brian Clawson. That lone loss came 11 months ago, which CBA avenged in the Class AA Super Bowl.

Tonight's Friday Night Matchup was the latest chapter in this growing rivalry between the two Suburban Council powers. Shen won the toss, and promptly went down the field, culminating when Jake Clawson, the coach's son, hit James Pepper, Jr. for a 32 yard touchdown. With the extra point, Shen took an early 7-0 lead.

CBA promptly answered a couple of minutes later, as Lucius Anderson ran it in from 12 yards out to tie the game. Shen, however, took the lead back, as Dillon May banged it in from the 1 with a shade over a minute left in the quarter. 14-7 Shen after 1.

CBA promptly tied the game as the 2nd quarter began, with Amare Coghill catching a 19 yard touchdown from Archie Jones. After Shen was forced to turn the ball over on downs, Jones found Anderson for a 43 yard TD. The Brothers led, 21-14, at halftime.

It was virtually all CBA from there. In the 3rd quarter, Jones ran it in himself from 15 yards out, but the PAT failed. After a Shen punt, Jones connected with Anderson again, this time from 18 yards out with under a minute in the frame. However, the 2 point conversion failed, and it was 33-14, CBA, after 3.

On the first play of the 4th quarter, Ihsaan Aloize took a pass from Jake Clawson, and sprinted 55 yards to the house. Unfortunately for Shen, the point after was blocked. Tom Toure added a 9 yard TD run late, and CBA goes to 3-0 with a 40-20 win. Shen falls to 2-2.

CBA will be on Friday Night Matchup again in 2 weeks. Next week, Columbia makes its 2nd appearance, as they'll face Averill Park.
