Ichabod Crane sophomore Tanner LaTorre captured first place in the Section II men's golf state qualifier Tuesday at the Fairways of Halfmoon in Mechanicville. 1st round leader Sean Roddy of Guilderland faded to 3rd. Troy's Joey Degnan failed to qualify.

The women's soccer sectionals opened Tuesday with Albany Academy blowing away Hoosick Falls, 11-0. The Bears will now face another team from the Wasaren League, Mechanicville, tomorrow.

Shonly Wallace was a graduate student when she played for UAlbany in women's lacrosse a year and a half ago. Now, she's back in the area as a scout for the Albany FireWolves, the first female scout in National Lacrosse League history. If this works, other teams will begin looking for women in similar positions around the league.
