Before we get to this week's recap, we will note that Troy's own recap is not yet available on their website, as, due to Rosh Hashanah, it was not ready as of Friday.
Meanwhile, next door at Troy Middle School, 80's & 90's fitness icon Jake Steinfeld was in town to help launch a new fitness center at the school. Check the video:
Now, on to the recap:
Women's soccer:
Current record: 6-5-1 (4-5-1 Colonial Council):
I honestly will be shocked if Jarret Farrell isn't named coach of the year by at least one local paper. Farrell's Lady Horses have exceeded their win total from last year, and could have more. 4 games remain.
This week: Voorheesville comes to town Monday night. Then comes a rematch at Cohoes on Tuesday, followed by Senior Night vs. Lansingburgh.
Men's soccer:
Current record: 2-8-2 (1-4-2 Colonial Council):
Russell Hines' club has dropped 4 straight, with 4 games left.
This week: Cohoes comes in on Tuesday night. Then, it's a road trip across town to Lansingburgh on Thursday. The Knights' only wins this season have been in non-league play, including a season sweep over former Colonial Council rival Watervliet (now in the Patroon Conference, merged with Heatly).
Golf:
Current record: 8-4 after sweeping three matches last week.
This week: A road trip vs. Albany Academy & LaSalle on Monday & Tuesday respectively.
Volleyball:
Current record: 4-5. Talia Valenti's club has been idle since losing to Mohonasen on 10/1:
This week: The Lady Horses welcome Ichabod Crane on Tuesday, and visit Albany Academy on Thursday.
Swimming & diving:
Current record: 3-2 after beating Schenectady-Colonie.
This week: A 3-team meet vs. LaSalle & Holy Names.
Women's tennis:
We're still waiting on the result of Thursday's match at Voorheesville, which, of course, has not been reported. The regular season ends Wednesday with Senior Day vs. Ravena. Sectional pairings will be announced on Thursday.
Update, 10/8: The ladies are 1-6 after losing to Voorheesville.
Football:
Current record: 2-3 (0-3 Class A Capital Division):
Jordan Canzeri's crew has dropped three in a row after a heartbreaking loss to LaSalle. However, there is still hope.
That's because their next two opponents, South Glens Falls & Amsterdam, are each 1-4. The Rams are 1-2 in the Capital Division, and would like to think this year's trip to Troy would be a more pleasant experience after losing two years ago. Sure, they collected a receipt last year, but now, it's Troy's turn.
