News & notes

Later tonight, weather permitting, the coaches of the Capital District High School Hockey League (CDHSHL) will hold their annual meeting to finalize the pairings for the playoffs, which begin Tuesday night with play-in games. Keep in mind that Queensbury is in Division 2, and is not in Division 1 tournament, leaving 11 teams.

Before we get anywhere else, let's take a look at Saturday's scores.

LaSalle 4, Albany Academy 3 (OT). Tim Flanigan's club will be the 3rd seed, finishing 4th overall in the standings. Academy finishes 6th, and will be the #5 seed.

Ithaca 6, Saratoga 4. The Blue Streaks won the regular season title, and thus will be the #1 seed.

Burnt Hills-Ballstan Spa @ Guilderville was postponed, and will be played Monday.

The play-in pairings, with games set for Tuesday & Wednesday. Dates will be decided tonight.

#11 CD Jets @ #6 CBA. Winner plays LaSalle.

#10 Guilderville @ #7 Hawks. Winner plays Shenendehowa.

#9 Bethlehem @ #8 Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa. Winner plays Saratoga.

Albany Academy will play #4 Adirondack in the quarterfinals.

Update, 2/17: Today's game between Burnt Hills & Guilderville could change the seedings for the playoffs. We'll know for sure on Tuesday.

The Albany FireWolves can't seem to catch a break in going from the penthouse to the outhouse this season.

Mired in the NLL basement, the 'Wolves were blown out by Ottawa, 18-9, Saturday night. Doesn't look like they're bound for the post-season this year.

Siena marked Mental Health Awareness night at UHY Center by beating Sacred Heart, 66-51. Anajah Brown led the Saints with 23 points. Ahniysha Jackson (Albany), after hitting her 200th career 3 pointer in a win on Thursday, was held to 4 points.

The game marked a homecoming for Amelia Wood (Averill Park), who finished with 8 points.

Meanwhile, Siena's women's lacrosse team went across the river to Troy to play Binghamton on Saturday, and dropped an 8-6 decision to the Bearcats. I believe Renwyck Field is on the RPI campus.
