It isn't often that the dismissal of a major college basketball coach outside the 518 gets a headline locally, but in this case, it's because of the coach's past including a stint in the 518.

Former Siena coach Fran McCaffrey was dismissed by Iowa on Friday after 15 seasons, a victim of diminishing returns, and a 2nd round exit in this year's Big 10 tournament. McCaffrey's bound to land somewhere before next season. Son Connor made headlines last year as the armpiece of women's superstar Caitlin Clark when she was in town.

Tonight's Albany FireWolves game vs. Georgia is underway as we write, marking the return of of the Thompson brothers, formerly of UAlbany, to the 518, as members of the Georgia squad. CDTA finally replaced their 'Wolves billboard to promote tonight's game, but that should've been done a while ago. We'll have the result in our next report.
