News & notes

NFL Defensive Rookie of The Year Jared Verse was a special guest Saturday at UAlbany held its annual spring football game. Even though Verse was drafted out of Florida State last year, he still has some good memories from his time with the Great Danes.

The Albany Firebirds began a season-closing four game homestand by walking off Salina in overtime, 64-58, to go to 7-0 on the season. The 'Birds are right back at MVP Arena Saturday vs. Nashville, with a game time of 7 pm.

Ana Gold (Ballston Spa/Duke) was drafted by the Blaze of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, which begins its inaugural season next month.

The AUSL has just 4 teams, with 15 players per team. The regular season consists of 24 games in 10 cities. This is why they don't have home city designations for the teams. Gold earned a golden ticket for the draft, and was one of 12 such players.

A senior at Duke, Gold is currently hitting.356 with 13 homers & 55 RBI.

Speaking of Troy, and we will update yesterday's sports review to reflect this, but the Flying Horses, per AD Paul Reinisch, defeated both Bethlehem & Schenectady over the weekend to take their record to 5-3. Tonight's game vs. Burnt Hills is still on the docket, but contact Reinisch or any THS official to find out if the game is still on.
