Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the sports schedule the last two days, but for most sports, this is the final week of the regular season. Tennis sectionals begin Monday. Let's recap last week.
Men's lacrosse:
Current record: 1-8.
Yep, same as last week, and that's because it appears Friday's game vs. Lansingburgh was rained out, even though most teams will play lacrosse in the rain, as it's meant to be. Luckily, the season's almost over.
Next:
The laxmen travel to Hoosick Falls to play Hoosick Falls-Tamarac on Monday, and will have Senior Night Friday vs. LaSalle. Unfortunately, as of now, rain is in the forecast for Friday.
Softball:
Current record: 9-5 (9-1 Colonial Council).
The 1 in the league loss column came as Troy fell to Voorheesville. Sean Geisel's club came back the next day and beat Cohoes. Saturday's road game at Saratoga was cancelled due to wet grounds.
Next:
Monday is a mess. Friday's rainout vs. Lansingburgh has been reset for 3 pm, but then the girls have to go across town, back to THS, and both Holy Trinity & 'Burgh are scheduled. Triple-header, anyone? I'm pretty sure they'll straighten that out. The home game vs. 'Burgh was moved up from Tuesday, but probably will be put back, I would guess. After that, it's a rematch vs. Mohonasen on Thursday, and, weather permitting, Glens Falls has been rescheduled for this Saturday.
Flag football:
Current record: 7-4.
After losing a tight one to Burnt Hills on Monday, Frank Rogers' club came back to rout Ballston Spa & Albany Leadership on Wednesday & Friday, respectively. Saturday's game vs. Beekmantown appears to have fallen victim to the elements.
Next: The regular season is set to end at Broadalbin-Perth on Monday. Troy should get two-sport athlete Tee Harris back for this game.
Tennis:
Current record: 3-5.
While the matches vs. Schoharie & Schalmont have not been reported, we're assuming Troy lost both, which is why they're a #6 seed at Queensbury on Monday. But, hey, 3 wins is better than one or none, which they averaged in the Suburban Council (2016-24).
Baseball:
Current record: 7-8 (5-3 Colonial Council).
The week started badly with losses to Voorheesville & Columbia before the Flying Horses blew out Cohoes. A road trip to Ballston Spa was cancelled due to weather.
Next:
The week begins with a 2 game homestand vs. Albany & Lansingburgh, before the regular season ends at Mohonasen. Sectional seedings will be announced May 20.
Track & field:
Individual accomplishments aside, the Horses haven't won a meet in forever, and this week's schedule is daunting.
League meets will be at Voorheesville & Ichabod Crane, Tuesday & Thursday, respectively, before the prestigious Eddy Meet in Schenectady on Saturday.
