The Tri-City Valleycats came out of the 1st weekend of the Frontier League season with a 1-1 record after blowing out Brockton (formerly the New England Knockouts), 12-2, on Sunday at Bruno Stadium. This after the Rox won the opener, 4-2, on Saturday night.
Arlo Maryczak (Bethlehem/Siena) pitched the opener for Tri-City, and earned a no-decision, as the bullpen blew the game late. Jake Reinisch (Shenendehowa/Wake Forest) made his 'Cats debut as a pinch-hitter late, and went 0-1. On Sunday, Reinisch was the DH, and went 2-4, so he starts with a .400 batting average.
As for Brockton, the Rox have a reunion of former Albany Academy teammates Derek Bender & Brett Young. Young has not yet seen the field after 2 games, but Bender, who was dismissed by the Minnesota Twins organization last fall, is hitting .375 in the young season, as he had a couple of hits and a run scored in Sunday's game.
Bender, by the way, was interviewed by Mark Singelais for today's Albany Times-Union. I think it'll be Young's turn for an interview when the Rox return next month.

Chalk up another one for the Albany Firebirds, who ran their record to 8-0 in beating Nashville, 71-55, on Saturday. It appears that new Kats part-owner Jon Gruden didn't make the trip. The 'Birds are off until Corpus Christi comes in----maybe---on May 24.

A correction from this week's Troy High sports review. The men's lacrosse team completed a season sweep of Lansingburgh, 13-0, on Friday. The score was not reported until late Sunday for reasons unknown. Troy, now 2-8, travels to Hoosick Falls-Tamarac today.
