News & notes

Siena College's women's soccer team found out Sunday that they'll be heading West for the NCAA women's soccer tournament, as they'll play Arizona State, out of the Pac-12. It'll be interesting to see how far the Saints will go in the tournament.

Ian Anderson's 1st major league start came 8 months ago at Yankee Stadium, as he out-pitched the Yanks' Gerrit Cole.

Wednesday, Anderson returns to the Bronx with Atlanta for the 2nd half of a 2-set with the Yankees, and this time, he figures to have a rooting section in the stands for the first of what figures to be three or four trips to New York City (the others will be at Citi Field vs. the Mets). The Braves & Yankees are off to unexpectedly bad starts, although the Braves looked like they came out of a malaise on Sunday in blowing out the Cubs.

I'm challenging the DJ's at the Stadium to queue up some Jethro Tull.

A quick glance at this morning's newspapers shows that last night's Troy-Averill Park volleyball match was not reported. Seems AD Paul Reinisch's staff has been asleep at the wheel for some, but not all, matches this season. Troy is now 4-9 overall after winning a five set thriller.

Of course, they'll say that with the YouTube stream, they don't need to report the results. Oh, really? Tonight's non-league match vs. Tamarac is not on the schedule posted in the Albany Times-Union, nor does Troy have a link prepared for tonight as of press time. Bad enough that high school volleyball doesn't get the same kind of press coverage as, say for example, basketball, soccer, football, baseball, etc........!
