News & notes

The Tri-City Valleycats' 1st season in the Frontier League will still start on time, but the itinerary for the team's season opening road trip has been rerouted away from Canada.

The league announced Tuesday that two of their Canadian clubs, the Ottawa Titans and the Trois-Rivieres Aigles, will sit out the 2021 season, and that a team comprised of players from Trois-Rivieres and the Quebec Capitales will play. A new schedule hasn't been finalized as of press time.

Tri-City will open the season in New Jersey against the Sussex County Miners in a five game series (May 27-31) before taking on the NY Boulders (June 1-3). The home opener, from June 4-6, will be against the New Jersey Jackals instead of the Capitales.

The 'Cats are holding open tryouts for interested players on May 7.

We've mentioned that Shenendehowa grad Ian Anderson will be on the mound for the Atlanta Braves tonight against Corey Kluber and the Yankees. Turns out that isn't the only Atlanta-NY matchup.

Kevin Huerter and the Atlanta Hawks will visit Madison Square Garden to play the suddenly scorching hot Knicks, who've won 7 straight. The Yankees-Braves game starts at 6:35 pm on YES (Spectrum digital channel 321) & ESPN (channel 300). The Knicks-Hawks game starts about a half hour or later afterward on MSG (channel 318).
