News & notes

Troy High's women's cross country team placed 6th in the Blackbird Invitational meet at Voorheesville on Saturday. The men's team was to also take part, but didn't place among the top 15 teams in their division.

Weather permitting, the school's golf teams will be at Normanside Country Club this afternoon to play Bethlehem. The women's match was rescheduled from September 3 due to a scheduling conflict.

The Troy Fighting Irish finally got their playoff chase started on Saturday vs. Broome County, but the game was moved all the way to Rotterdam Pop Warner's field, again due to scheduling conflicts. Team President/GM Ryan Job, also the head football coach at Watervliet, had the field there reserved for team activities on Saturday. We'll have the result later.

Update, 10:44 am: Per the Northeastern Football Alliance's webpage, the Irish were eliminated, 6-2.

The Tri-City Valleycats' 1st season in the Frontier League, while successful, is over.

The 'Cats needed arch-nemesis Sussex County to beat Equipe Quebec to give them a chance at a playoff spot, but when Tri-City took the field against the Washington Wild Things later that afternoon, they already knew that strategem failed.

Equipe Quebec defeated Sussex County, 11-7, to win the division. Then, Washington blew out the 'Cats, 10-4, so Tri-City finishes two games in arrears of the Quebecois. There's no wild card in the Frontier League with four divisions, so it's wait 'til next year for the Valleycats.
