News & notes

RPI has rewarded football coach Ralph Isernia with a 5 year contract extension after taking the Engineers to within 2 games of a NCAA FCS title in 2019 & 2021.

Here's to hoping 2022 brings two things to the Engineers. Fans back at East Campus Village Stadium, and television coverage on ESPN or another network.

UAlbany's women's basketball team was missing five players, including former Columbia star Grace Heeps, due to health & safety protocols, but they still had enough players to blow Union out of SEFCU Arena, 88-37, on Tuesday night.

Abby Ray (Saratoga) had 3 points, and Lilly Phillips (Cambridge) had 10 to help the Lady Danes (7-4 overall), who begin America East play tomorrow at Hartford.

Conversely, the men's game vs. Bucknell, scheduled for today, has been postponed due to COVID concerns on the Great Danes, whose next game is scheduled for Sunday at Vermont.

With former Siena women's coach Ali Jaques calling the Albany-Union game, WTEN meteorologist Tim Drawbridge handled play-by-play for Capital Region SportsNet's coverage of Tuesday's Amsterdam-Johnstown game, the finale of the Amsterdam College Showcase. Paired with former player E. J. Gallup (Colonie/UAlbany/Albany Patroons), Drawbridge did an okay job. Nothing fancy or flashy.

Oh, and, for the record, Amsterdam used a fourth quarter surge to beat the undermanned Lady Bills, 63-45. Johnstown dressed just six players due to---wait for it---COVID. Unfortunately, there is no boxscore for the game, as it wasn't received by local newspapers prior to deadlines for today's editions, although I'd imagine WTEN had the highlights in time for their 10 pm newscast on WXXA.
