News & notes

 Albany Patroons coach/GM Will Brown has filled out his coaching staff with some familiar names.

Section II coaching legend Don Bassett will serve as a special assistant to Brown, for starters. Former College of St. Rose coach Brian Beaury will be on the coaching staff, likely only for home games due to health reasons. Former Catholic High star Julie McBride and former Southern Connecticut State coach Rob Rybczyk, a cancer survivor, complete the staff.

McBride played her college ball at Syracuse, then began a pro career with the NWBL, and went overseas to Turkey, Poland, & Croatia. She also mentored Brown's son, Jackson, a recent Catholic Central grad who, after a year at UAlbany, is now at Fredonia State.

Yale got the better of UAlbany on Tuesday night in New Haven, 71-52, and got some help from former Albany Academy star August Mahoney, who had 13 points, sending the Great Danes tumbling to 1-7.

In other UAlbany news, Greg Gattuso's football Danes will visit Syracuse on October 29. Expect a caravan tying up traffic that day.
==================================
Speaking of Academy, Kennedy Swedick, to no one's surprise, tops the Albany Times-Union's 2021 golf all-stars for women. Keep in mind, she's only a sophomore, and already has eyes on the pro tour. Teammates Nicole Criscione, Samantha Von Rohr, and Jillian Rawson, joined Swedick on the first team, along with coach Sarah Adamowski. Rawson, like Swedick, is a sophomore. Von Rohr is a freshman, and Criscione is a junior, and they'll all be back next year.
==================================
Shenendehowa alumnus Ian Anderson, fresh off helping the Atlanta Braves win the World Series, will be an honorary captain for the Albany FireWolves for their home opener vs. Rochester on December 18. You know what this means. The FireWolves are looking to boost ticket sales. There will be a meet & greet with Anderson before the game, which is set for a 7 pm start.
