News & notes

 Siena had one simple mission. Win, and wait for help to secure the #2 seed in the MAAC tournament.

Instead, the Saints blew a 16 point 2nd half lead, and dropped a 65-62 decision to Canisius on Saturday afternoon. Jackson Stormo led the Saints with 18 points, while Colby Rogers added 17. Siena will now play either Marist or Quinnipiac on Thursday in Atlantic City.

In sharp contrast, Siena's women's team closed the regular season with a 69-65 win over Monmouth Saturday afternoon at the UHY Center on the Siena campus. Ahniysha Jackson (Albany) finished with 12 points, and had enough time to head across the river to Troy to see her former team in action in the Class AA women's finals (see below). Valencia Fontanelle-Posson (Guilderland) had just 6 points after a career night on Thursday.
=============================================
Tournament play has already begun for UAlbany's women in the America East tournament. The Lady Danes dismissed New Hampshire, 49-44, at SEFCU Arena. UAlbany hosts Vermont on Tuesday. Kayla Cooper led Albany with 14 points in a low scoring affair.

Time is running out on the Albany FireWolves playoff chances.

Union College advanced to the quarter-finals of the ECAC hockey tournament, completing a two game sweep of Princeton, 5-1. They'll now await the results of the rest of this weekend's series before returning to action on Friday.

RPI evened their series with Dartmouth, 3-2, setting up a 3rd & deciding game today at Houston Field House at 4 pm. While fans are being admitted, they have to wear masks, as RPI has not completely lifted COVID restrictions out of an abundance of caution.

Siena's baseball team was swept by Jacksonville State, 8-4 & 7-1, on Saturday. Brett Young (Albany Academy/Virginia Commonwealth) homered in the opener, but Siena promptly coughed up the lead in the home 3rd.

Section 2 hockey is shuffling off to Buffalo next week.

Shenendehowa, the Delvecchio Cup champions, blew away Monroe-Woodbury, 12-2. Queensbury, a Division 2 school (don't ask), clipped John Jay, 7-5.
