News & notes

15 months after he won his 400th game as basketball coach at Hoosick Falls, Mike Lilac, Jr. hit the plateau in baseball on Thursday, as Hoosick Falls defeated Waterford, 12-4, completing a season sweep of the Fordians. Hoosick Falls blew out Waterford, 22-2, on Tuesday, and outscored the Fordians, 34-6, in the two games. The Panthers are now 12-8 overall, 9-7 in the Wasaren League.

Only one other coach has achieved the same milestone. George Khoury won 518 games as a basketball coach at Warrensburg, while also winning 448 games on the diamond, and added another 143 in football.

Troy High graduate Eric Beaulac, a 2008 draft pick of the Mets, never played an inning for New York, but rather, made his big league debut 4 years later with Baltimore, before hanging it up altogether 2 years later in independent ball.

Next Friday, Beaulac will toe the rubber again, this time for charity.

Beaulac will pitch an inning for the Tri-City Valleycats during their game vs. Washington at Bruno Stadium. The mission? Lukemia research. Beaulac is a candidate for the Lukemia & Lymphoma Society's Visionary of the Year, and the 'Cats will be raising money to raise awareness of the diseases.

Speaking of the 'Cats, they'll get a half hour headstart on the Albany Patroons, as both teams are home tonight.

One big change for the 'Cats this year is that the start times for Friday & Saturday games have been moved from 7 pm to 6:30 (Sunday games remain at 5 pm), to align with the same starting time Tuesday-Thursday. The Patroons, meanwhile, after a week off, return home to play Reading at the Washington Avenue Armory at 7 pm.
