News & notes

After winning the Liberty League baseball title on Sunday, RPI is heading to Baltimore to play in the NCAA Division III tournament at Johns Hopkins University, beginning Friday with a game vs. Rutgers-Camden at 2:30 pm. Former UAlbany pitching coach Jason Falcon is the current Engineers head coach.

In order to clear a scheduling logjam created by Friday's rainout, Troy played a home & home doubleheader vs. Lansingburgh on Monday. A previously scheduled game vs. Holy Trinity was postponed.

Now, this is not unprecedented. On at least one, maybe two occasions, the Mets & Yankees played a home & home doubleheader in recent years, but I don't think it' been done too often at the high school level.

Anyway, Troy swept the doubleheader, needing just 5 innings in the first game at Rensselaer Park Elementary in a 17-1 demolition. Then, back on their home field, Troy completed the sweep with a 12-4 win to go to 11-1 in Colonial Council play. Ouch!

Siena is wrapping up the regular season in baseball with back-to-back games. On Monday, the Saints took down Quinnipiac, 7-4. Today, Siena returns to Connors Park to host Fairleigh Dickinson at 3 pm.
