The Tri-City Valleycats' playoff chances are slipping away in the midst of a 4 game losing streak heading into their road finale today vs. the NY Boulders.
The Tri-City Valleycats dropped a 6-4 decision to the NY Boulders on Friday, despite another home run from Brad Zunica, but that's not the only story coming from the 'Cats' camp.
You might recall that the team filed suit against Major League Baseball after the dissolution of the NY-Penn League in 2020. That case will go to trial in 2023 in Manhattan, but according to an attorney who was interviewed by the Albany Times-Union, he doesn't think the case will be settled before it goes to trial. The Valleycats are averaging over 2,000 fans per game since entering the Frontier League last year.

After sweeping a doubleheader on Tuesday, the Tri-City Valleycats dropped a 6-5 decision to Ottawa on Wednesday night. The 'Cats had entered play six games behind East division leader Quebec, and tied with Sussex County for 2nd place, pending the outcome of the Miners' game vs. the Empire State Greys.
Last year, Troy High experimented with fielding a women's golf team for the first time. Unfortunately, there isn't going to be a 2nd season just yet.
Will they try again in 2023. That might be up to not only Athletic Director Paul Reinisch, but the school board as well.
In other Troy news, the men's golf team will wait an extra day to play Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. The meet, originally scheduled for September 8, has been pushed to September 9, the last of an 8 meet series over the first two weeks of the season. The men open at Guilderland on Thursday.
Also, the Troy/Tamarac/Averill Park women's swimming & diving team has had their meet at Shenendehowa, originally set for September 23, moved up two days to Wednesday, September 21. No reason given for the change, although the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah starts that weekend.
We should see results coming in starting at the end of the week.
Per James Allen of the Albany Times-Union, Section II football training camps started on Saturday, two days earlier than originally planned. While this may be a boon in terms of long-term planning for the season, which starts September 2, there are some key notes:
Averill Park has named Nicholas Galuski, son of assistant coach Mark Galuski as the starting quarterback. Galuski was a wide receiver last season. The Warriors said good-bye to last year's starter Gavin Giordano via graduation back in June.
After some confusing information on the website, it has been confirmed that CBA will open the season at LaSalle on September 2 in the Battle For The Sabre.
This may not be the final schedules for Troy's teams in men's & women's soccer & golf and women's volleyball & tennis, as there are some open dates to be filled.
Throughout softball season, there was a lot of speculation that Troy High 2-sport star Olivia DeCitise was considering Nebraska for bowling in college.
Then, last month, came a game changer.
On July 22, DeCitise posted on Twitter that she is committed to UMass-Lowell, likely more for softball than bowling, given her extraordinary junior season.
What we neglected to mention in reporting that Thursday's Tri-City Valleycats game vs. Ottawa was rained out is that the Titans will make one more trip into Troy on August 17-18. The teams have two options:
1. Use the extra off day on the 16th to make up the rainout, or:
2. They'll play two on either the 17th or the 18th.
For the first time since 2012, Impact Wrestling, formerly TNA Wrestling, is heading to Albany, and for a pay-per-view, to boot.
On Thursday's episode of Impact, it was announced that the annual Bound For Glory event will take place in Albany on Friday, October 7, which will be a true test of a wrestling fan's loyalty. The event will take place opposite Smackdown, which, depending on Fox's baseball playoff schedule, will air on either Fox or FS1 (Spectrum channel 400), that night.
Anthem, the Canadian based parent of both Impact and the AXS network, a premium channel on Spectrum, is looking to put a dent in WWE's ratings, blunting the older company's recent momentum surge.
But, that ain't all, folks.
Women of Wrestling, or, WOW, is going into national syndication next month after getting booted off AXS. Former WWE women's champion AJ Lee (April Mendez-Brooks) is on board as a commentator, according to early reports. WCWN, which lost Ring of Honor after 10 years in April, will pick up Women of Wrestling, which debuts September 17 at 10 pm, in back of the CW's Saturday lineup.
Between 4 pm today and approximately 3:30 pm tomorrow, 5 Section II football teams will vie for berth in regional semi-finals in their resp...
