High School Fridays: Ride Like The Wind (Burnt Hills @ Troy, 10/31/25)

 It wasn't quite a midnight dreary, being Halloween and all, but it was blustery at Picken Field as Troy hosted Burnt Hills in the 1st round of the Class A football playoffs tonight, the grand finale of Halloween Spirit Week at Troy High.

Burnt Hills won the opening coin toss, and deferred to the second half. After an exchange of possessions to start, the Spartans finally got their offense going, with Daniel Olmstead finding Michael Bies in the end zone for 15 yards. Burnt Hills botched the extra point, which became a direct snap to kicker Logan Tomlinson, who rumbled in for the 2 point conversion.

These two teams had not met since the 2021 season, when the Spartans collected a receipt on Troy after the Flying Horses torched Burnt Hills that spring to win the Class A title. Sophomore Kyair Carr led Troy down the field, and, as the 2nd quarter began, had Troy in position to score. Carr hit Ben Mengil for 13 yards, then ran the 2 point conversion in himself to tie the game at 8.

To borrow from the Carpenters, Troy had only just begun.

After Burnt Hills recovered a pooch kick, and couldn't do anything with it, Carr went right back to work. He hit senior Kayne Behan, who returned to the team after playing golf the last two falls, for 43 yards. Then, Carr found Vordonn Forde behind the defense for a 47 yard score. Another 2 point conversion put Troy up, 16-8. This time, Troy recovered the pooch kick, marched down the field again, this time my Nymiere Jenkins running it in from 5 yards. The extra point failed, but it wasn't long before Troy got the ball back. This time, Carr threw his 3rd TD pass, this one to Julian Monk. The 2 point conversion went nowhere, and Troy went into the break with a 28-8 lead.

Did Burnt Hills have another comeback in them? Yep.

The Spartans took the 2nd half kickoff all the way down the field, ending with Michael Turgeon scoring from a yard out. Tomlinson added the extra point, and it was a game again at 28-15. Back came Troy again. Aiden McBride scored from 22 yards, but the 2 point conversion failed again. After a Burnt Hills punt, Monk scored his 2nd touchdown, this one on an end-around from 20 yards. It took about 4 tries, but Gabriel Bentley, who'd been responsible for the pooch kicks, was rewarded for his yeoman's work by running in the 2 point conversion. Troy now was up, 42-15, heading to the 4th quarter.

Burnt Hills now had to score on every possession. Talon Immel broke into the scoring column with a 2 yard run. Tomlinson's extra point made it 42-22. On their next possession, Burnt Hills took advantage of some sloppy defense, and Peyton Marshall ran it in from a yard out. Needing a 2 point conversion this time, the Spartans could not get any closer. On Burnt Hills' final drive, Olmstead was intercepted by Darell Murray, who'd gotten burned for a pass interference penalty earlier. Once Troy got out of the shadow of its end zone, it was over. Two kneel downs iced the game, and Troy punched its ticket to the next round.

Thursday's high school scoreboard, 10/30

 As noted last time, Section II spread out week 9 of the football season across three days instead of two, figuring that everyone's attention would be on the Class A & C playoffs tonight, even though it seems likely that those games could end up finishing in the rain, if the forecasts hold up.

That having been said, let's start the Thursday recap with football.

Football:

Glens Falls 43, Green Tech 6. The Black Bears wrapped up the Class B regular season title a while ago, proof that a reporter's lack of wisdom does provide bulletin board material.

Saratoga 41, Schenectady 0.

Lansingburgh 58, Scotia 13.

Ravena 28, Ichabod Crane-Chatham 0.

CBA 12, Colonie 0.

Guilderland 26, Shaker 21. The Dutchmen appear to have clinched the #4 seed in Class AA, and a date with CBA next week.

Field hockey:

Greenwich 4, Johnstown 0.

Hoosick Falls 4, Granville 0.

Women's soccer:

Glens Falls 3, Averill Park 0.

News & notes

 Sovereignty, who made it seem like he'd found a home at Saratoga over the summer, has been scratched from Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar in California due to illness.

Sovereignty won the Belmont Stakes, Jim Dandy, & Travers at Saratoga between June-August.
================================================
Shenendehowa frosh Julie Chichak made a little history Wednesday in Flushing Meadows, Queens when she won the NYSPHSAA women's singles title at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Chichak defeated 8th grader Gabrielle Alexa Villegas of Long Island in straight sets to bring the 2nd ever women's state tennis title home to Section II.
================================================
I am begging for any restaurant in the 518 to have a plate of crow delivered to James Allen on Friday.

Allen will call Friday's Burnt Hills-Troy Class A playoff on Spectrum News 1 (kickoff sometime between 7:05-7:10), alongside Chris Watson. Spectrum made the announcement in the last 24-48 hours to send their cameras to Picken Field.

Given the history between these two schools, this could really be anybody's ballgame. This will be the first time Spartans coach Kevin DeBonis comes to Troy, if memory serves me correctly.

To remind, Allen had picked Troy to finish 3rd in the Capital Division, but the Flying Horses finished 2nd after knocking off Amsterdam last week.

Of course, should Troy volleyball, now more motivated than ever by being dissed by the Section II committee, win the Class AA title there, the committee should also be served some crow. With cheese sauce.

Lake George swept the Adirondack League cross country titles on Wednesday, just as Queensbury did the same in the Foothills Council on Tuesday. Fonda-Fultonville likewise swept the Western Athletic Conference titles.

Burnt Hills 7, Scotia 0.

=================================================
As Class AA play starts tonight in women's volleyball, I'd like to take a moment to point out exactly why Section II misfired, using politics instead of common sense in formulating a 6 team field.

These are the teams, as ranked by Section II, with records included:

1. Bethlehem (14-2).

2. Columbia (12-4).

3. Queensbury (17-2).

4. South Glens Falls (11-3).

5. Troy (18-0!!).

6. Niskayuna (7-9).

If you go by records alone, as you should, and not pander to politics, this is the correct bracket:

1. Troy.

2. Queensbury.

3. Bethlehem.

4. South Glens Falls.

5. Columbia.

6. Niskayuna.

Of the 6 teams, Queensbury & Troy had played more than anyone else (19 & 18 matches, respectively). The Suburban Council has a 16 match schedule, and South High played the fewest games, but had a very good season. Tonight, Troy travels to South High, and Niskayuna visits Queensbury. You can argue that you can flip Queensbury & Bethlehem, dropping the Eagles to 2nd instead of 3rd seed, and you keep one matchup intact. Logically, it should be Troy & either Queensbury or Bethlehem getting the byes, and Columbia going to South Glens Falls.

Since Section II HQ is in Latham, somewhere in between Colonie & Shaker High Schools, you have to figure they're pandering to the Suburban Council. They should not. Ever.
===================================================
Because classes AA, B, & D still have a week of regular season play, they are spreading out their week 9 schedule, so it starts tonight, with 3 games each in Class AA & B.

News & notes

 When Voorheesville ends its football season in the next few days, coach Joe Sapienza will retire from coaching, but will remain with the Blackbirds as their athletic director. It has been 27 years since the Blackbirds last won a sectional title, and the last two seasons have not been fruitful for Sapienza & Voorheesville. We wish Sapienza all the best.

Queensbury swept the Foothills Council cross country championships on Monday, despite the fact that Scotia's Kiera Macintosh had the best individual time for the women. Congratulations to the Spartans.

Section 2 football playoff preview, part 1

 Classes A & C begin postseason play Friday. Classes AA, B, & D will enter the postseason the following week.

Class A quarterfinals:

South Glens Falls @ Niskayuna. Funeral services for the Bulldogs will begin sometime around 9 pm, because, based on recent performance, Nisky will run up the score again. It'll probably be over at or before halftime.

Amsterdam @ Ballston Spa. This is a better matchup, one that could go either way. The Rams have been demoralized after losses to Nisky & Troy the last two weeks, the latter costing them a home game. If they somehow win this game, the Rams will get a rematch vs. Nisky. However, they cannot look past the Scotties in hopes of getting that rematch.

Pick: Ballston Spa.

Burnt Hills @ Troy. For years, under Matt Shell, the Spartans had Troy's number, until Bob Burns broke the hex a few years back. Kevin DeBonis' club cannot rely solely on do-everything Logan Tomlinson. If Troy, winners of 3 in a row, run out to an early lead, it's over. If Spectrum News 1 chooses this game, someone should prepare a plate of crow for James Allen.

Pick: Troy.

Columbia @ Queensbury. It's been a down year for Jake Preston & the Blue Devils. Playoff contenders last year, to just lucky this year. Still, because of the shaky sitch at quarterback, this could be an upset in the making. Remember, Columbia played Troy very tough earlier in the season before losing.

However, it would seem as though Queensbury would provide the toughest challenge to Niskayuna, so....

Pick: Queensbury.

Class C:

Watervliet-Heatly @ Fonda-Fultonville. To borrow from Bob Seger, it seems like yesterday, but it was actually long ago that Watervliet, before the merger with neighboring Heatly, was a state champion, and shared a photo op on the bridge linking Troy & Watervliet. This one will be a one sided affair.

Pick: Fonda-Fultonville.

Johnstown @ Granville-Whitehall. The Sir Bills have had a better year this year than they have in recent times. The union of Granville & Whitehall is just a product of the hard times today's schools face in the post-COVID era.

Pick: Johnstown.

Hudson @ Schuylerville. Not much needs be said here. The Black Horses will gallop into the next round.

Hoosick Falls-Tamarac @ Cobleskill-Richmondville. This one could go either way, and if there is a true upset among the 8 games listed, this is it.

Pick: Hoosick Falls-Tamarac.

Of course, I could be wrong. Part 2 next Monday.

RPI's ECAC men's hockey team has yet to win a game this season. Apparently, changing coaches isn't helping matters.

The Engineers are 0-6 after being swept by Minnesota State-Mankato, 2-1, on Saturday night. RPI returns home for a home & home series with Union starting Friday.

The women aren't faring much better, though. The Lady Engineers dropped a Saturday matinee to Clarkson, 7-1, to fall to 1-8, heading on the road Friday at Princeton.
==========================================
UAlbany fell to 1-7 in football after losing to Villanova, 29-16, on Saturday. I've a feeling "interim" coach Jared Ambrose won't get the chance to run the team full time after the season.
==========================================
RPI football has won 4 in a row after thumping Hilbert College, 69-14. Men's soccer celebrated Senior Day, but St. Lawrence spoiled the party, beating the Engineers, 2-1. St. Lawrence made it a clean sweep, beating the RPI women on the road, 1-0.

Troy High sports review, through October 24

 Now, the real fun starts.

Football:

Final regular season record: 6-2 (4-1 Class A Capital Division).

Would someone be so kind as to order a plate of crow for James Allen at the Albany Times-Union?

Allen predicted Troy would finish 3rd in the division. Probably figured they'd be buried after losing to Niskayuna. Nope. Troy has won 4 in a row after beating Amsterdam on Friday.

Next: Kevin DeBonis & Burnt Hills come to town for a 1st round playoff game on Halloween night. The playlist on the PA should include "Thriller", "Monster's Holiday", "Welcome to my Nightmare"......!

Volleyball:

Final regular season record: 18-0. Colonial Council champions.

After all the confusion caused by an errant videographer, Troy finished a perfect regular season by sweeping Lansingburgh.

Next: Sectional pairings will be announced on Tuesday.

Swimming:

Final regular season record: 4-5.

Troy-Averill Park closed the regular season losing 3 of their last 4 meets, the latest loss coming against Guilderville.

Sectionals have not yet been scheduled.

Men's soccer:

Final record: 6-11.

Ballston Spa collected a receipt, and elimnated Troy in the 1st round.

Women's soccer:

Final record: 3-13-1.

As expected, the Lady Horses are 1-&-done after losing to South Glens Falls in the 1st round.

High School Fridays: Test run for a playoff (Saratoga @ Shenendehowa, 10/24/25)

 Saratoga & Shenendehowa went into tonight's game knowing that they would meet again in the Class AA playoffs in 2 weeks. Recent history was on Shen's side, as the Blue Streaks hadn't beaten them since the 2018 playoffs.

The game started off fast. Literally. Taisiah Lamore took the opening kickoff, shed a tackle, and he was gone, down the sideline, 90 yards to the house, just 17 seconds into the game. Olivia Mancini, profiled in Thursday's Albany Times-Union, added the extra point, and, before an offensive snap can be played, Saratoga had a 7-0.

On the ensuing kickoff, Shen's Joey Cardinale fumbled, and the Streaks recovered. However, as they were close to another score, QB Bobby Morris was intercepted by Jakub Tomaszewski, and Shen took over at their 20. That drive only produced heartbreak for Shen, and Saratoga, after a punt, drove back the other way, with Ben Coryea breaking out of a pileup to go 84 yards. Mancini added the extra point, and it was 14-0.

Back came Shen. A Jack Clawson 30 yard strike to Tomaszewski set up Cardinale for an 18 yard run to paydirt. The extra point was botched, so Clawson ran it in himself, and it was 14-8, going into the 2nd quarter.

The ensuing Saratoga drive saw Coryea, on the wildcat play, run it in from 31 for his 2nd touchdown of the game, with the lead now at 13. Late in the quarter, Ryan Heftig caught an 18 yard pass from Clawson, but Michael Maroni's extra point failed, and it was 21-14 at the break.

The 2nd half was a completely different game.

Shen took the 2nd half kickoff, and marched down the field, leading to Carter Toth plunging in from the 1 yard line. Maroni added the extra point this time, and we were tied at 21, heading into the 4th quarter. Shen has had one comeback win this season, against Niskayuna last month. Did they have another one in them?

Yep. Cardinale put Shen in front with his 2nd TD of the night, this time from 8 yards out. After Morris was picked off by Heftig, Cardinale iced the game with a 3 yard run to put it out of reach. Shen will see the Streaks again in 2 weeks in the playoffs after a hard fought 35-21 victory.

Other scores:

Fonda-Fultonville 42, Broadalbin-Perth 0.

Troy 34, Amsterdam 28. Troy locks up 2nd place in the Capital Division!

CBA 61, Albany 0. Albany will host Shen on November 1.

Johnstown 42, Hudson 32.

Cobleskill-Richmondville 59, Coxsackie-Athens 14.

Burnt Hills 34, Mohonasen 14.

News & notes

 A few years ago, Catholic Central hosted a basketball tournament in memory of former coach Rich Gilooly, who'd passed away a year earlier from a heart attack.

Fast forward 7 years, and Gilooly's daughter, Kate, now a senior at LaSalle, and Moira Galuski, daughter of Kevin Galuski (and niece of football coach Mark), are doing their part to help. Moira was named the youngest Player of Impact by the American Heart Association on Thursday. Speaking of impact, expect both ladies to be key players for LaSalle's women's basketball team this winter.
========================================================
Seems that Holy Trinity (Catholic Central/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) had quietly shifted to the Western Athletic Conference this fall, but CCHS will in fact field a women's basketball team in the Colonial Council starting with practices next month.

News & notes

 Human error. It just happens to all of us at some time.

In a nutshell, this is what caused all the confusion last Friday in Troy High's volleyball match vs. Mohonasen. The video that was posted was actually of the JV match, but was mislabeled by the videographer assigned to run the livestream for Hudl & YouTube.

A key clue missed was the uniform tops worn by the Mohon players. It was green, not the usual Mohon colors.

The THS sports review posted on 10/18 has been updated to reflect the fact that Troy did win the varsity match, and that Mohon won the JV match. The video at the center of all the controversy is still on Hudl & YouTube, but has been removed from this site.

Troy would subsequently complete a perfect regular season by shutting out Lansingburgh on Tuesday, while Mohonasen defeated Cohoes, 3-1.
====================================================
The NYS Public High School Athletic Association has approved a plan for classifying private, charter, & parochial schools beginning in the fall of 2026 when it comes to sectional & state playoffs.

Schools under this umbrella, such as CBA, Green Tech, and LaSalle, will be considered for movement to a higher classification if certain conditions are met. To wit:

* A winning percentage of .750 or higher for an overall, league, or classification record with a minimum of 4 games played.

* A team is recognized as a league and/or playoff champion, qualifies for sectional semi-finals, or is a state champion.

A NYSPHSAA committee voted 10-1 in July, with Section I opposed, on the plan, which was approved on Tuesday.

A year from now, it's going to get crazy.

News & notes

 Shaker grad Jeff Hoffman is going to the World Series with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hoffman slammed the door shut Monday, as ex-Tri-City Valleycat George Springer brought the Jays back from defeat with a 3 run homer in the home 7th, lifting Toronto past Seattle, 4-3, to take the series, 4-3.

The World Series begins Friday at Rogers Centre, as the Jays will look for their first championship since the Joe Carter-led Blue Jays upset Philadelphia in 1993. To do it, Toronto will have to dethrone the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers, who are looking to be the first team since the Yankees (1998-2000) to go back-to-back.

As we had posted the pairings for the soccer sectionals yesterday, we couldn't help but notice how Section II got Hoosic Valley & Hawthorne Valley confused, and ended up listing the former twice, when it is Hawthorne Valley that merged with Taconic Hills in women's class B. I think that by now, they've corrected that mistake.

Troy High sports review, through October 17

 The fall season is winding down. Golf & tennis are done, though one golfer will return to the course before graduation.......

Volleyball:

Current record: 17-0.

Edit, 10/22: Turns out the video that is available was actually for the JV match. Troy did beat Mohonasen after all, 3-0.

Next: The regular season finale is at Lansingburgh on Tuesday, with sectional pairings to be announced a week later.

Football:

Current record: 5-2 (3-1 Class A Capital Division).

Jordan Canzeri's squad brought home the Collar City Cup, as expected, beating winless LaSalle. Coupled with Amsterdam getting squashed by Niskayuna, Troy now sits in 2nd place in the division.

Next: Troy visits Amsterdam in the season finale, looking to lock down 2nd place, as Nisky clinched the division title.

Golf:

Senior Joey Degnan qualified for the state tournament in June, despite finishing at 13 over par over the two days of competition.

Men's soccer:

Swimming:

Current record: 4-4.

Troy/Averill Park fell to Ballston Spa on Wednesday, but came right back to beat Burnt Hills-Scotia on Friday to get back to .500. It was Senior Day for the swimmers, too.

Next: The season finale is at Guilderville on Wednesday.

Men's soccer:

Final regular season record: 6-10.

To give coach Russell Hines credit, the Horses fared better than they did in 2024, but they still haven't figured out teams like Mohonasen.

Next: Sectional pairings will be announced Monday morning.

Women's soccer:

Final regular season record: 3-12-1.

Jarret Farrell's club snapped a 7 game losing streak in beating Schenectady, but fell to Mohonasen for the 2nd time this season on Thursday. Now, they'll find out their sectional fate on Monday as well.

High School Fridays: Feeling pink (Burnt Hills @ Ballston Spa, 10/17/25)

 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To that end, both Burnt Hills & Ballston Spa players were wearing pink in some form. The Scotties' dog paw logo was in pink, and some Spartans had pink included with their uniforms.

Burnt Hills won the coin toss, and deferred to the second half. The Scotties were pinned back at their 10 yard line to start. No problem. A methodical 90 yard drive culminated with Tyler Perkins running it in from 3 yards out. Mason Lang added the extra point, and B-Spa led, 7-0.

But it didn't last.

Ty Starr took the ensuing kickoff 78 yards to paydirt, but Logan Tomlinson's PAT was blocked, leaving the Spartans down one after the first quarter.

Things got sloppy beginning in the 2nd quarter. 3 turnovers between the two teams, and it also became a festival of penalties, most of them against Ballston Spa. Burnt Hills mounted a drive in the midst of it all, with Owen Huggins scoring his first touchdown of the season from 9 yards. Tomlinson made the PAT this time, and Burnt Hills took a 13-7 lead into halftime.

However, the Spartans were without their biggest offensive weapon for much of the night, as Peyton Marshall was shut down in the 1st quarter, and used sparingly after, leading to speculation that he might have been injured, or, as color analyst James Allen opined, compromised. Marshall was not the factor he was last month vs. Columbia.

The 3rd quarter was a Don Henley special with all the dirty laundry on the field, so we move on to the 4th quarter, where it became the Mike Degenhart show. Degenhart, listed as the backup quarterback on the depth chart, was used as a running back with Jacob Thomas also seemingly injured much of the night. The sophomore bulldozed his way into the end zone on the first play of the 4th quarter, but Lang's PAT was wide, leaving the score tied at 13.

B-Spa's defense shut down the Spartans repeatedly, even with Burnt Hills getting a reprieve after a running into the kicker penalty on a Tomlinson punt. The Scotties' final drive of the night was another case of ball control, and Degenhart put the game away with an 8 yard run. Lang made the extra point, and B-Spa was back in front with under a minute left.

However, Burnt Hills turned the ball over on downs. One kneel-down later, and it was over. Ballston Spa takes possession of 2nd place in the Grasso division with a 20-13 win, three weeks after blowing a lead vs. Queensbury.

Next week: Spectrum's cameras will be back at Shenendehowa, as they'll face Saratoga.

A few clicks down the road at the Van Patten Golf Club in Clifton Park, Saratoga won the women's Section 2 team competition. Albany Academy placed 3rd, with LaSalle in 4th.

News & notes

 He may have been an Albany Firebird for just 1 season, but Terry Smith remains in their history books, which is why Smith gained some attention here after being named interim football coach at Penn State, replacing James Franklin, who was fired on Sunday, with the Nittany Lions on a 3 game losing streak.

Smith, a Penn State alumnus, was drafted by Washington in 1992, but never saw the field in an NFL game. He would then spend the next three years in the CFL before signing with the 'Birds prior to the 1996 season.

Best of luck to Smith as he tries to turn the Nittany Lions around with a month & a half left in the season.

Niskayuna's Emily Ciesinski, a goaltender for the women's lacrosse team, has made a verbal commitment to play in college at Clemson, which she says is a lifelong dream. Ciesinski has been tabbed as a top 5 prospect by Inside Lacrosse, which also has her at #37 overall. Ciesinski also fielded offers from Johns Hopkins, Virginia, Florida, & Northwestern.

It wasn't so long ago that Buffalo Bills DB Damar Hamlin had a cardiac event on the field in a Monday Night Football game vs. Cincinnati. The Albany Times-Union is reporting that a Darrow School student had one during a recent scrimmage.

Jamison Thrower, a transfer from Louisiana, suffered cardiac arrest earlier this month, and, according to the report, had been brought back twice when his heart stopped. Thrower is on Darrow's AAA team in NEPSAC (New England Prep School Athletic Council).

In other Darrow news, Guilderland's Brooke Lilley, a standout for the Lady Dutch in basketball, has transferred to Darrow, the better to enhance her chances for a college scholarship;

News & notes

 The International Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame has its base at MVP Arena in Albany, and, tonight, 5 wrestlers familiar to WWE fans will be enshrined for their contributions.

All but one of tonight's honorees are in the WWE Hall of Fame.

Trish Stratus is the headliner. Fitness model-turned-world champion, Trish held the WWE Women's title 6 times, all between 2001-6.

Tony Atlas: "Mr. USA" was a tag team champion with the WWE in the 80's, and won his only world title as a heel with the Savoldis' International World Class Championship Wrestling in the 90's, when the promotion had a TV deal with CNBC, if memory serves me correctly. Tony returned to the WWE to manage Olympic strongman Mark Henry during the latter's ECW title run in the late '00's.

Rocky Johnson was Atlas' tag team partner during those title days in the WWE. With the news in the press earlier this week, there surprisingly hasn't been much speculation as to whether or not Johnson's son, Dwayne (The Rock), might make an appearance in Albany to accept the induction on his late father's behalf.

Tito Santana was a multi-time tag team & Intercontinental champion in the 80's, the latter during a memorable feud with Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, while enduring the racist taunts of color analyst Jesse Ventura in the mid-80's.

Johnny Rodz might be known to fans mostly as a jobber during the 70's & 80's, but he had been a mainstay with WWE since the 60's. Sure, he'd win every now & again, but in the 80's, especially, he was utilized to make bigger stars get over with crowds. Two of his most famous students, the Dudley Boys, aka Team 3D, will be with TNA at tonight's Bound For Glory PPV, along with Tommy Dreamer, a TNA employee.

Now, we'll see what kind of attendance this event draws.
========================================================
For the 2nd time in a month, CDTA was forced to reroute some of their buses going through Watervliet this morning due to a marathon race, which, unlike the Arsenal City Run three weeks ago, got little press attention.

In the run-up to the event, there were electronic signs posted near McDonald's and Walgreens, but a check of the city website earlier this week produced nothing remotely close to any actual news about the event, which by now has ended. Shame on the city for such negilgence.
=========================================================
Shaker High has just one rooting interest in the ALCS, as Detroit and reliever Tommy Kahnle were eliminated in 15 innings by Seattle in a marathon game that spilled into early Saturday morning on the east coast. Kahnle gave up the game winning hit to Jorge Polanco, and was charged with the loss. Sports bars all over the 518 will have both the Mariners-Blue Jays game and Sunday Night Football available for customers tonight. The baseball game will get a 10 minute headstart.
