Having not played in over a week after beating Averill Park on December 20, John Killian's Troy High Flying Horses came to the Pat Riley Center at Schenectady High for a twilight special.
You'll excuse the low volume of the PA at the Center, as it appears not to be fully in sync with the YouTube stream. Down 1 in the 2nd quarter, Troy took a 10 point halftime lead, and never looked back, blowing away the Patriots, 76-58.

We noted earlier that UAlbany was forced to postpone tonight's game vs. Bucknell due to COVID-related issues on the Great Danes.
Now comes word that Siena is also dealing with more COVID postponements.
The winless Lady Saints have had two MAAC games, vs. Manhattan & Niagara, scheduled for Thursday & Saturday, postponed. If they can't make up the dates, Siena would be forced to forfeit the games under NCAA COVID guidelines.
The men, meanwhile, were set to play Canisius on Sunday, but that, too, has been postponed. The school has issued the following statement:
This is not the end, friends, not by a longshot.
RPI has rewarded football coach Ralph Isernia with a 5 year contract extension after taking the Engineers to within 2 games of a NCAA FCS title in 2019 & 2021.
We don't have all the results from day one of the Amsterdam College Showcase, for a number of reasons, chief of which is that certain schools didn't submit the results of their games in time for today's deadlines.
There were some other non-league games on the docket, as well, but, again, not all the scores are available as of press time. Bear with us.
Amsterdam College Showcase:
As the annual Mohawks hockey tournament is now underway at Union College, the COVID omicron surge has claimed another victim.
A squad from Brattleboro, Vermont was scheduled to play winless LaSalle in today's nightcap, but pulled out of the tournament at the last minute, replaced by Albany Academy. The amended schedule is as follows:
Academy @ Mohawks: Playing right now.
Tupper Lake @ LaSalle: 5:30 pm.
Tomorrow, Academy will play Tupper Lake, and the Mohawks & LaSalle will play each other for the first time this season, as they're scheduled to meet next month LaSalle was to play Brattleboro today and Tupper Lake tomorrow, so the Tupper Lake game was moved up. Here's to hoping LaSalle can finally win.
Meanwhile, Siena's men's basketball team was to travel to Washington to play American University tomorrow night, but that game was called off as American is dealing with a COVID surge, less than a week after Siena's women's team was pulled off the court 20 minutes before game time vs. Syracuse. Doesn't look like the game will be rescheduled.
The Albany Times-Union did a profile piece on former Shaker football player Brandon Barlow, now at Boston College, ahead of the Eagles' scheduled appearance at the Military Bowl, set for Monday.
Unfortunately for Barlow and Boston College, the game won't be played.
Eagles coach Jeff "Don't Meet Me" Hafley announced earlier today that BC is dealing with a COVID outbreak on their team, and don't have enough players available for the game. It is not known as of press time if Barlow is one of those players.
Hafley, in his 2nd season with Boston College, has landed bowl bids in both seasons, but opted out last year due to COVID concerns. It is the 3rd time in 4 years that a bowl game involving the Eagles has been cancelled.. The 2018 First Responder Bowl was cancelled due to weather issues, specifically lightning.
Closer to home, RPI is scheduled to play Vermont on Thursday. They will, as of now, but it won't be a home game anymore.
The school announced earlier this week that the game will now be played in Burlington on Thursday night due to a COVID outbreak on the RPI campus. The school's official statement stated that the change was made out of an abundance of caution and concern over the pandemic's effects on the team. The game was to be broadcast on RPI-TV, but now will air only on WRPI-FM (91.5).UAlbany is losing football players to the transfer portal left & right, but coach Mark Gattuso is sticking around.
Gattuso and AD Mark Benson finalized a contract extension, first negotiated after the 2019 season, that will keep Gattuso at UAlbany through 2024. That it took two years, including two straight losing seasons, to get it done suggests that maybe UAlbany administration might've thought about breaking off the deal.
UAlbany's women's basketball team was to have played SUNY-Canton last weekend, but that game was wiped out by COVID. In its place, the Lady Danes will host Union College on Tuesday at SEFCU Arena. This game should raise the Dutchwomen's basketball profile.

High schools:
Hockey:
CD Jets 6, Mohawks 0. The score was not reported to the local press.
Wrestling:
Hudson Falls has had two meets reported. They defeated Schuylerville-Greenwich, 60-12, and Scotia-Glenville-Galway by the same tally. What we're not sure of is which of these meets took place before Tuesday, or it might've been a dual meet. It wasn't made clear.
To follow up on a recent story, former Troy High star Joe Casale is transferring from UAlbany to Robert Morris for next season as a graduate transfer. Casale has 2 years of athletic eligibility left, though academically, he may be graduating in the spring. Two former Great Danes assistants are now coaching at Robert Morris, which may have influenced Casale's decision.
We can confirm that the Shenendehowa-Adirondack game that was postponed over the weekend was due to a COVID outbreak at Shen. The school has paused its hockey & wrestling teams until after Christmas. One gets the feeling this isn't the end.
Green Tech 62, Troy 54. Troy has now dropped 3 of their last four, and 0-2 in non-league play. Fortunately, they'll play Dave Pugilese's hapless Averill Park squad tomorrow at home before going to Christmas break. Green Tech avenged a loss to Troy in the 2013 Class AA title game, albeit with different casts on both sides.
Tamarac 65, Shaker 51. The Bison's recent winning streak comes to an end. Methinks they took the Bengals a little too lightly.
Voorheesville 54, Hoosic Valley 53.
Ichabod Crane 80, Taconic Hills 62.
OESJ 65, Galway 41.
Greenwich 68, Fort Plain 51.
Broadalbin-Perth 48, Schalmont 45.
Lansingburgh 49, Saratoga 42.
It had been 18 years since indoor lacrosse had been played at what is now Times-Union Center, and will soon be MVP Arena. The Albany Attack later was sold and relocated to San Diego after a 3 season run, which included hiring on wrestler-author Mick Foley to do some TV commercials. Seems Mick played lacrosse in his youth.
Anyway, the Albany FireWolves, who relocated from Connecticut, played their home opener Saturday night in front of just under 5,000 fans. Those that chose to stay home watched the game on TV or listened on the radio.

Could Troy High have been looking past Shaker, and ahead to Sunday's game vs. Green Tech, the finale of the Coaches vs. Cancer marathon this weekend?
It's hard to say. Troy has had Shaker's number in recent years, but if John Killian's team went into this game thinking this would be another win, they were proven wrong. The Blue Bison's defensive pressure slowed the pace to their liking, not Troy's, and the Bison led at the break.
However, back came Troy, and the Flying Horses took the lead going into the fourth quarter. Shaker, though, came right back, and fought back to get the game to overtime. They did it by going back to the pressure defense that helped them set the pace in the first half. The Bison outscored Troy, 16-7, in the extra frame, pulling away for a 61-52 victory.
Troy drops to 2-2 (2-1 Suburban Council), and will face old friend Zaveon Little and Green Tech next before coming home to play Averill Park on Tuesday.

Former Troy High QB/LB Joe Casale has entered the transfer portal, leaving the UAlbany football team after playing as a redshirt sophomore this season. I'm beginning to suspect he was not getting enough playing time under coach Greg Gattuso, or was frustrated with all the losing.
UAlbany's women's basketball team made it 2 in a row over MAAC schools Wednesday, dispatching Canisus 65-46. Grace Heeps (Columbia) had 8 points, including 2 3 pointers. She's hit 4 treys in the last two games. Lilly Phillips (Cambridge) contributed 4 points. Both Heeps & Phillips were in Colleen Mullen's starting lineup. Abby Ray (Saratoga) didn't score.
Not all of Tuesday's scores were reported to the local press as of press time. I can't stress this enough. Parents need to help the coaches/AD's submit reports.
